It§s a really cool blend between jazz and world music, including African rhythms, Latino beats, Mediterranean sounds.

A real discovery ! One of the best afro-jazz albums I have heard so far.

RADIO SALANKOLOTO - OUAGADOUGOU (BURKINA FASO)

Doudou GOUIRAND INDIGO SONG : " Les racines du ciel "

(Plume/RDC/BMG, France, 2002)

Here is a transcultural North-South fusion record that I like very much !

It is a blend of jazz idiom by the underrated alto saxophonist Doudou Gouirand whom I like very much with pure african rythms and chants, delivered with a large choice of instruments.
This recalls the best moments of the great Pharoah or the eternal music of Abdullah Ibrahim (Dollar Brand)…A modern base which serves ancient Bambara chants and South African lullubies.

(Michel Wulput, Discobus 2)

Doudou Gouirand has invited strong individuals from the african community[…] A perfect casting […] In this sparkling album he never attempts to show off; this record rather underlines the contour of an unrecognized personality, and should delight the most curious of the lovers of fusion between jazz and african music.

Here you find all the elements that contribute to make of Doudou Gouirand the great saxophone player he is. A truly marvellous album ("Passages")with a real actual sound, which all the fans of an evoluted, rich and intelligent jazz will love. Simply exceptional ! Nick Fury - A propos – N° 16, nov. 2001- Spain

Throughout the nine original songs in the album ("Passages"), Gouirand§s limpid sound is shining through luminous melodies which alternate between nostalgic ballads and energetic tempos. A group that irradiates as a mediterranean sun. * Claude Loxhay, Jazz @round, Belgium, oct 99.

« A stature of a sensitive composer...a generous musician with a fascinating instrumental voice. » Musica Jazz, Italy, 1994.
